Maxine Robinson Trice Young was born on February 15, 1941 in St. Louis, MO to Teretha and William Robinson. She attended Sumner High school and then married Glenn Trice. She worked as a dressmaker for a while before deciding to pursue a singing career in Los Angeles, CA. Stunningly beautiful, tall and talented, Maxine was offered modeling and singing gigs before ending up at Hollywood’s famed Whiskey–a-go-go night club venue, where she worked as one of the first black go-go dancers. The club hosted groups like, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Temptations, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
After a number of years she returned to her home town, settled in and married Charles Young. She enjoyed jazz music, dressing elegantly shopping and spending time with family and friends. She was an extremely generous and giving person. Blessed with a warm, sparkling personality, she charmed and touched many during her lifetime.
Maxine made her transition to heaven on November 4, 2010, surrounded by family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Andre Trice; daughter, Cynthia Trice; sister, Nghandi Hede; grandchildren, Starla, Shawnte, Antonio, Anyah, Jennifer, Alicia, Miriam, Andre Jr., Sergio, Sarita, and Shikeeda; great-grandchildren, D’anyah, Perkey, Rachel, Ryan, Rychelle, Ryleigh, Kaylon, Jynnae, Jeremiah, Briah, Chrisan (Anjah’s son), Christian (Antonio’s son); and a wealth of extended family and friends.
Among family members that preceded her in passing were her mother, Teretha; father, William; grandmother, Irene; aunt, Irma; first husband, Glenn and second husband, Charles.
In life, she exhibited strength that encompassed all definitions of the word. Now, she represents patience until we who love and honor her join her on the other side. Therefore, we her family and friends, say farewell for now, beloved Maxine.
