Otis Grundy

February 15, 1926 – February 25, 2016

Otis Grundy was born in Texarkana, TX on February 15, 1926. His parents and all but 3 of his siblings have preceded him in death. He was inducted into the US Army on November 16, 1945 and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1946. In 1948, he relocated to St. Louis. He took a vocational course for U.S. Veterans offered by Saint Louis University. He chose tailoring. In 1950, he met and married Velma Jackson. They were in love until her death in 1986.

Over the years, Otis Grundy would hone his tailoring skills to become a much sought after “Master Tailor”.  He retired from Saks Fifth Ave in 1994; but he continued his tailoring work from his long-time home on Theodosia.  A soft-spoken, articulate gentleman, he often credited God for his extraordinarily long and successful life.  He was a longtime member of Christ’s Southern Mission Baptist Church. He was also an active member of Amvet Post 67.  Following a brief illness, Otis died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on February 25, 2016, just days after celebrating his 90th birthday. He is survived by 2 daughters, 2 sons, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.  Funeral arrangements:  March 3, 2016, 11:00A.M., Christ’s Southern Mission Baptist Church, 5630 Page Ave., St. Louis, 63112
