Robert L. Foster was born March 19, 1936 in England, Arkansas to the late Bert and Fannie (Satterfield) Foster. Siblings preceding him in death, Elbert Foster, Jeff Foster, James Foster, Sr. and Luvenia Foster.
The family relocated to St. Louis in 1938 where Robert was educated in the public school system. He graduated from Dunbar Elementary School and Washington Technical High School. Upon graduation, Robert enlisted in the United Stated Marine Corps and was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant in 1958.
Robert married the former Jacqueline Allred and later, Billie Jean Harris, who preceeded him in death. He continued his education by attending St. Louis University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Robert’s employment career included years at Food Center Grocers (National Foods), McDonnell-Douglas Corporation and agencies within the federal government. For several years he owned Foster’s Bookstore located on Martin Luther King near Hamilton, which specialized in black history information. He retired as an auditor for the City of St. Louis in 2001 after 21 years of service.
Robert was a tireless volunteer and officer with several community organizations. He was especially proud of being an active member of the Montfort Point Marine Association. More important than anything else, Robert loved his family and friends. Loving brother of Ella (Sylvester) Freeman of Kansas City, Kansas, William (Lugean) Foster of Wyoming, Michigan, Louis (Luevenia) Foster and Annabelle Foster of St. Louis; special cousin to Sarah J. Owens; special friend to Pearline Rogers; dear uncle, cousin and friend.
Departed this life April 2, 2007 in St. Louis.
