The family of Sam Turner gives heartfelt thanks to all who supported us thru this most difficult time. We are grateful to everyone who extended themselves in any way and helped us celebrate Sam’s Homegoing. We are also thankful for those of you that have continued to support and walk with us since his Homegoing. We are touched by the outpouring of concern and genuine selflessness that surrounds us. It touches us to know how Sam touched so many of you in his short stay on this earth.

Sam’s journey here was a unique experience full of character and personality. His choices were his own. Some of the roads were rough and painful, some educational, some exhilarating and joyful. All roads were full of adventure which was typical of Sam Turner. His journey provided an opportunity to be the first successful black Account Executive for 3M Corporation in this region, a teacher in the St. Louis School System, work with Slate in its formative years and take pride in the joy of being a proud father.

He also lived on the streets of St. Louis late in life—not because he had to but because he chose to. His journeys were always unique, complex, and unconventional. Meeting him for the first time was like meeting a good friend. He was never a stranger. No matter the road or journey, he did not complain. Sam looked to the positive side of life. His glass was always half full and never half empty. His gifted ability to communicate to us in stories, jokes, and laughter will fill our spirits and keep us centered on the true importance of this life, love. Love for and about spirituality, family, and friends.

God’s light shines in each of us whether homeless on the river front or an executive in the boardroom. How we love and treat our family, friends, and the extended “brothers and sisters” we encounter is what truly matters in this life. Our love of God is demonstrated every day in how we love and take care of each other. We truly felt that love from Sam and we now feel it from you. Thank you so much for loving us!
