Ms. Susie Mae Patterson was born in Phillipp, MS on May 4, 1917 to the union of George and Sally Stinson-Brown. She was blessed with one daughter, Lillie Mae.
After moving to St. Louis in the early 1950s, Ms. Patterson graduated from cosmetology school. She was employed with Chase Park Plaza. “Miss Susie,” as she was affectionately known, also shared her parenting skills and love of children as a domestic worker with various families in the St. Louis area.
Miss Susie enjoyed attending fashion shows, plays and symphony performances. She actively participated in politics and exercised her voice through the voting process.
Ms. Patterson was a confidante and campaign advisor to political leaders such as state Senators Franklin Payne, Fred Weathers, Theodore McNeal and Alderman Daisy Mc Fowland and served various committeemen and women. She was instrumental in the aldermanic and mayoral campaigns of businessmen Steve and Mike Roberts.
Miss Susie loved to listen to KMOX radio and would frequently call in to express her views on various subjects concerning the metropolitan area. Miss Susie was concerned with helping others and often volunteered her time at Saint Augustine’s Catholic Churches.
Miss Susie confessed her faith at an early age and was an active, faithful member of St. Roch’s Catholic Church for twenty-six years until her passing. Susie Patterson departed this life on June 2, 2005, at Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield, where she had resided for several months.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers n Jesse Brown and Oscar, John, & James Garner; and three sisters n M. L., Lottie and Jimmie Mae Garner.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one sister, Rose (Chester) Smith of Milwaukee, WI; one daughter, Lillie Mae Brown of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren n Shirley Brown, Alvin Brown, Gail Brown, Ella (Vallar) Brown, Evelyn Brown, Tyree Brown, Kiritha Brown, Ferletia (Sheppard) Brown, August Brown, Mary (Hamilton) Brown; 16 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
