Nobody ever said politics was nice. Earl Wilson, president of the Gateway Classic Foundation – a Democrat, last time we checked – came out this week in support of Republican John Maupin, who is vying for Democrat Joan Bray’s seat in the state’s 24th Senatorial District.
Wilson, an alumnus of Lincoln University and one of the state’s most established proponents of HBCU’s, took offense at Bray not supporting his gubernatorial nomination to the Lincoln University Board of Curators. He said Bray’s refusal to support the nomination pretty much killed it. Wilson previously served on the Board of Curators from 1965-1970 and then again as its president from 1996-2002.
You can’t blame someone for fighting a snub with a snub. Unfortunately, Wilson railed against Bray using terms that are being promoted heavily by the Republican Party in an effort to pick off a few black Democrats and maintain the Republicans’ disastrous control over state and federal government.
Wilson said its time to “vote your conscience.” He can be mad, but he should know he is mouthing independently what happens to be a dangerous party line. Go ahead and vote your conscience, but also watch out for black stealth Republicans getting paid to tell y’all to “vote your conscience.” You might only be voting for their payback.
