Back to the Airport Hilton. Everybody elbowed somebody when city NAACP President Harold Crumpton bought three tickets to the dinner at the door. As you recall, state Rep. Esther Haywood, County branch treasurer, led a revolt to have Crumpton punished earlier this year over the infamous “coup/coon” radio incident. A hush came over the ballroom as Haywood had Crumpton recognized by veteran NAACPer Ina M. Boon, prez of the county branch. But the acknowledgement was from the audience, and not as a head table guest – ooops!
