On Monday the St. Louis Branch NAACP will hold its annual election for officers and executive committee members at the Harris-Stowe Library, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. You must be a paid member to participate. Firefighter James Morgan, a former branch, president is running against the incumbent, Harold Crumpton.

For all the dissatisfaction with Crumpton (the latest is outrage over what some thought to be a foolishly lavish Freedom Fund Dinner, that spent skads of unneeded money on lights and flowers), Morgan hasn’t campaigned much to beat him, depending on old relationships and votes of firefighters. National board chair Julian Bond had promised a resolution condemning Crumpton for the faction that opposes the current branch president, but this seems to have dined on the vine in the Nov. 7 election hoopla. Morgan is out there on his own, with a few tireless supporters devoted to sending Crumpton home.
