Of the many gaffes made by local Democrats in the weeks before showtime on Nov. 7, let’s not forget the state’s energetic enforcer of the death penalty – and campaigner on the backs of executed black men – Attorney General Jeremiah “Jay” Nixon. Nixon was awfully busy making “I’m next at the top of the ticket” noise, sending out pre-election email blasts inviting folks to a post-election “Democratic Strategic Assessment and Planning Meeting,” hosted by, of course, himself. Nixon might have taken a moment to do something for the person who was at the top of the state ticket on Nov. 7 before he started his own campaign. Anybody counting the number of votes he actually delivered to Claire McCaskill on their fingers would still have some fingers left uncounted – and that’s before moving onto the second hand.
