As a member of the negotiating team that will hammer out the final version of the Missouri Department of Corrections budget, state Rep. Jamilah Nasheed is fighting for higher funding for a parolee re-entry program in St. Louis.

The Senate version of the budget bill includes $1 million for the program, while the House version includes $810,529. House and Senate negotiators must resolve the differences in the versions before the bill can win final passage and be sent to the governor. Nasheed intends to push for the Senate position on the bill. Nasheed said, “This program will help ensure that former inmates in St. Louis get job training and job placement; drug treatment, if necessary; and other assistance for a smooth transition back into the community.”
