A letter from former 4th Ward Alderwoman Peggy Ryan:

This morning as I drove Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd to work, I noticed the back side of a large wooden sign as I approached Sarah Avenue at Dr. MLK Blvd. The sign was placed in front of the Historic Ville Monument and granite marker.

I slowed to see what was on the sign. I was appalled to say the least when I saw that it was a sign announcing development of new homes in the 4th Ward. I was not appalled because it was about a new development, but because it was destroying the view of the Historic Ville Monument and its marker. The development that it is announcing is not located in the Historic Ville, it is located in the Greater Ville.

The sign should not have been placed on the site of the monument and at its marker. The purpose of the erection and development of the Historic Ville Monument and its marker was to welcome people to the Historic Ville Area. I hope the sponsors for the sign will reconsider its placement and adjust accordingly.
