State Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal is attempting to rally the base in support of state Auditor Claire McCaskill in her bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Jim Talent. She admitted some Dems “are exhausted from all the elections this year,” some “are still dealing with the disappointing outcome in 2004” and some “are harboring less-than-Democratic feelings about certain actions (or inaction) that have occurred in the past” – but, she urged, it’s time “to put forth a fearless unwavering effort that will move ahead the Democratic agenda as a whole. There’s a much bigger picture here and we’ve got to act before it’s too late.”
The Irish poet William Butler Yeats once painted a picture in words that sums up politics in the U.S. since the ascendancy of Ronald Reagan and the religious right: “The best lack all convictions, while the worst/
Are full of passionate intensity.” It’s long past time for the good guys to show a little passionate intensity.
