The Missouri Citizen Education Fund recently released a report, “Who Supports Urban Children,” that outlines the connection between the co-sponsorship of school choice House Bill 808 to campaign expenditures by out-of-state school voucher PACs and votes in favor of the Medicaid cuts instituted by Senate Bill 539 in 2005.

“This report calls into question the legitimacy of the tuition tax credit voucher supporters claim that they are motivated by their concern for urban children. If those individuals were really so concerned about helping children, they would not have voted to cut children off from healthcare,” said John Hickey, executive director of Missouri Citizen Education Fund.

“Are these state representatives working on behalf of our children? Or is this just another example of elected officials who are more concerned about privatizing government and winning campaigns than our children’s future?”

Note that State Rep. Rodney Hubbard and state Rep. Ted Hoskins, two black Democrats who are often villainized in the EYE for their advocacy of school choice, did NOT vote to cut Medicaid.
