Virvus (editorial note: Sharon was wrong in thinking Virvus Jones sent in the item about her political career),
As you may note, it’s early in the morning and I am reading the St. Louis American and ran across a comment in the Political EYE referring to me and the 4th Ward. First of all the comment is totally false.
I have had several residents of the ward who are dissatisfied and they inquired about my running again and I told them I did not see myself running again. I have in fact met with a young lady who wants to run and wanted my support, but I advised her I would not want to say where my support would be in the future.
I have recently agreed to meet with another individual who is considering the seat and they inquired if I was running again. I was asked my advice and thoughts. I voiced my concern about the financial culpability of a campaign as well as my personal ability to raise funds. I, for one, never enjoyed fundraising. I terminated my campaign finance committee late last year.
There are many rumblings in the 4th Ward that have nothing to do with me. Any political revenge heaped upon Mr. Shelton won’t come from me. If anything, he will bring it upon himself. You know O. L. better than me. I just met Mr. Shelton in 1998; political revenge is not a game that I play. If anything there is an apparent grumbling among the aldermen and other political pundits in the ward because of the development plans. The issue of development in the 4th Ward is bottom line for Mr. Shelton and the major reason for the recall meted out as punishment upon me. It’s always about the money, Virvus. I am certain most of the O. L.’s supporters knew that one better than me.
Personally, Virvus, you for one know, I have been active in politics for many years and I am not going to say I won’t remain active, but I want to channel my political energy in another direction. I’ve recently made contact with members of the Democratic Party and inquired about becoming more active with the party on the state and/or national level.
Thanks for your time and feel free to contact me. I will always consider you a friend, classmate, and political comrade.
