In her post-primary campaign for U.S. Senate, state Auditor Claire McCaskill is expected to start playing more attention to the Democratic party’s urban base – and sure enough, she was seen working the room at the Airport Hilton during the St. Louis County NAACP’s annual Freedom Fund banquet this past Friday.
Where was the incumbent, U.S. Senator Jim Talent? And do you notice how in this guy’s ads, he is never the incumbent? All those hardcore Republican insiders are squirming to seem anything other than “in” as this country gets more and more fed up with their leadership.
Tiffany Watkins, the incumbent’s African-American deputy campaign manager, was steaming mad that her boss wasn’t afforded an opportunity to purchase an ad or table for the dinner. But then, prominent attorney Jerry Hunter was an honorary co-chair, and it should have been his responsibility to hawk tickets for Talent, since he is “Mr. Missouri Black Republican.” Also Talent’s consultant Tim Person was reportedly tipped about the dinner by an NAACP insider but didn’t get the senator’s butt in a seat.
