Here is another puzzler. Add to Yaphett and Talibdin El-Amin their homegirl Jamilah Nasheed, who is running for the House in the crowded 60th District, and you have three candidates in this primary who can be understood to be under the paternal political control of Yaphett’s father, Eddie Hasan. There are folks who think both of the El-Amins and Nasheed are the strongest candidates in all of their respective races, but who will work against one or more of them simply because they don’t think anyone, including Eddie Hasan, should have that much of North St. Louis on lock. One such person, a strong player in the state party, told the EYE he favors El-Amin for state Senate, Sharon Tyus (over Nasheed, Simms and Bob Bartlett) in the 60th District and Joe Palm (over Talibdin and Karla May), thinking strictly along the lines of favoring the best candidates yet not delivering all of North City to Hasan. When you have smart people pondering pretzel logic like that, really anything could happen on August 3, and anybody peddling predictions with any degree of confidence is a genius, a psychic or a liar.
