It was a gutsy run for a two-term African-American alderman to go after a veteran incumbent from the political mainstream, but Lewis Reed took a run at Jim Shrewsbury and he gored him. The challenger is the big winner and the incumbent, of course, is the big loser, but in this, as in any important campaign, there are enough wins and losses to spread around town.
