It looks like somebody is out to get Brian Wahby, and Wahby has every reason to think it is the EYE. Last week the EYE ran with some gossip on Wahby that turned out to be untrue. He did not escort Jeff Smith to a state party meeting before the August 8 primary, he did it afterwards, and though his support of Smith was implicit to close observers (which is inevitable, in a small town, just as everyone knew Maida Coleman supported Amber Boykins without her announcing it to the press), Wahby did not commit the faux pas, as a central committee chair, of officially endorsing one candidate over the others during the primary.
Apologies to Wahby. Gossip columns are what they are, but it is still painful to have been wrong – and to be slandered.
Now the EYE and Wahby will both be looking for who is out to get him.
