We were pleased to read in the Political EYE that our Democratic colleague Congressman Wm. Lacy Clay has signed onto a resolution calling for the impeachment of Vice President Richard Cheney.
In March we filed Missouri House Concurrent Resolution 46 calling on Congress to investigate whether there are grounds to impeach both Cheney and President George W. Bush. Others signing onto HCR 46 were Reps. Shalonn “Kiki” Curls, Leonard “Jonas” Hughes, Beth Low, Jenee Lowe and Mike Talboy of Kansas City and Rep. Tony George of St. Louis County.
We remain convinced that evidence is mounting that Bush and Cheney have violated the U.S. Constitution, U.S. Code, the U.N. Torture Convention and the Geneva Convention. Similar state-level resolutions have been filed in New Mexico and Washington and passed by municipal councils throughout the U.S.
We join with Clay in calling for a thorough investigation regarding grounds for impeachment in order to protect our nation’s highest values and the lives of countless people.
