Kudos to reporter Kenya Vaughn and photographer Wiley Price for their coverage of the “Remember, Reflect, Respond” candlelight vigil held on December 13 at St. John’s Church (The Beloved Community). This event brought together nearly 200 individuals from all parts of the St. Louis area who are outraged about the level of gun violence and the havoc it is causing in our communities. If there was one disheartening thing about this event (other than the fact that it needed to be held), it was that no elected officials bothered to show up. Additional kudos to The American for the 2015 Newspaper of the Year award from the Local Media Association. It is well-deserved; I learn something from every issue I read.
