The use of the word “ghetto” in Maurice Scott Jr.’s story about Dawn Harper from East St. Louis was disrespectful towards her and to the community of East St Louis. There’s nothing “ghetto” about East St Louis or any other community within the U.S. Many communities are “unfortunate” due to lack of resources. Unfortunate communities are the products of the people as a whole.
