Freshman state Rep. T.D. El-Amin, has been somewhat at the head of the class in terms having a strong presence in Jefferson City, and local and national media circuits. He has appeared on Fox and Friends national cable program, local news channels, JET magazine, USA Today, ESPN and local and national radio, mostly related to his controversial, conversation-stopper bills: removing Mark McGwire’s name to create a John Bass Highway, placing baking soda (an ingredient in crack) behind the counter, education reform, Missouri Global Warming Solutions Act and HCR 26 asking the State of Missouri to apologize for slavery.
What is puzzling is that one local a.m. urban radio program has reported nothing on air of these efforts, with the exception of weekly criticism, often personal. The same ones who criticized the EYE for tearing down young African Americans have resorted to what they themselves complained of.
El-Amin is making a name for himself for being an independent and standup representative, whether we agree or disagree on issues or not. In the words of state Rep. Rodney Hubbard, one wonders if some are suffering from a severe case of hateration!
