The St. Louis County Library was recently cited as a “star library” by the Library Journal in its annual list of stellar libraries. Part of the Journal’s ranking is based on library usage. St. Louis County ranked high in that category.

The Tesson Ferry branch has the second highest usage in the county system, due in part to its very convenient location on Lin Ferry. So why does the Library Board intend to move this branch to a new facility in an inaccessible location?

The library board insists that the selected location on the grounds of the up-scale Grant’s View development at Musick and Gravois is the best location. However, a recent traffic study of the location contradicted the board’s contention. The study set forth a plethora of traffic concerns that need to be addressed. Realistically, no amount of road work will make the site suitable, so library usage will be reduced and the library’s “star” tarnished.
