I appreciate Meliqueica Meadows’ story about the resignation of Dr. William Kincaid. I read about the incident in the Post-Dispatch, on the Riverfront Times site and on the Pub Def site. The versions presented just did not make sense. Believing that the head of public health here would walk into a meeting and drop the N-word totally out of nowhere or as a joke was more than my credulity could take.

Somehow, though, the story just kept growing, and nobody ever seemed to get down to what really happened. In contrast, you cut through the volatile controversy to interview the major figures and write a thorough article.

First, Dr. Kincaid should not have said what he did. Second, city politicos should have put the health of their constituents before taking shots at their rivals. Third, more media attention should have explored what really happened and why who said what rather than just going with the hard-to-believe version. At least you finally did the third. Thank you.
