“I became sick and tired of being sick and tired.”

That is how Keilan Littleton of Christian Alternative LLC described his frustration with the St. Louis social scene for young Christians.

“As a Christian, you’re always told what you can’t do but you’re never given an alternative,” he said. “So a lot of Christians have no social lives.”

Littleton added, “I know a lot of young Christians turn to secular alternatives or do nothing at all.”

He spent a lot of time being bothered by the situation and then decided to take action.

“God gave me the inspiration,” he said of the idea to create Christian Alternative LLC, which started out as a record label then became a marketing, promotions and event-planning entity.

“We want to bring Christian concerts and events to St. Louis with an urban, contemporary, upscale feel to it,” he said. “You have a lot of complaints about what’s not going on in St. Louis but very few people doing anything about it.”

Littleton created an alternative to the plethora of secular “happy hour” networking events that happen on a regular basis in venues throughout the city. But with the drink specials and secular music, many young Christian professionals simply don’t feel welcome in an atmosphere that is antithetical to the standards of their faith.

The concept is to provide an upscale, classy event for area Christian young professionals. The first of these networking events will take place Friday, September 29 at the Third Degree Glass Factory, 5200 Delmar Blvd, from 7-11 p.m. The kickoff event will be hosted by gospel recording artist Praiz’ and Majic 104.9 radio personality Selena J.

Littleton said people can expect “red carpet treatment,” complete with “catered food, valet parking, a non-alcoholic bar, networking with Christian businesses, live performances from host Praiz’ as well as Charity Russell, The Soul Rebels and Antha “Rednote” Rogers.

To set the scene off right, Littleton knew big names would be a big draw.

“With Selena J, I knew she’d taken a stand for God,” he said. “I was looking for people who’d taken a stand for God.”

And so had hip-hop artist Praiz’, whose debut release, The Takeover, has received both local and national acclaim.

“I knew he was hot,” Littleton said. “I wanted to have the hottest people using their talents and giving glory to God.”

“Hope, faith and love” is what Littleton hopes people to experience at Fellowship Friday.

“I want non believers to come and see hope. I want believers to have their faith strengthened by connecting with other believers. I want the ambiance to be love, as well as people having a good time on a social level.”

The cost is $10 for ladies and $15 for men, and the dress code is “grown and classy.” Call (314) 862-6902 or visit www.fellowshipfriday.com.
