To promote the benefits of physical activity as a means of reducing the risk of chronic ailments such as heart disease, stroke, hypertension and diabetes among American Americans, Abraham’s Children is launching the “Kick Start Your Heart” 12-Week Congregational Fitness Challenge beginning January 22.

“Kick Start Your Heart” is a point-based challenge to engage participants in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity each day. It’s a friendly competition within each participating congregation and across the St. Louis faith based community.

Prizes will be awarded every four weeks to the individual in each congregation with the most points. Also, the congregation with the highest point average at the end of the challenge will be crowned “Healthy Church of the Year” and receive a grand prize award to include a free healthy cooking class sponsored by Operation Frontline.

Participants from across the metropolitan area will unite for the official kick off of the program on Saturday, January 21 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Monsanto Family YMCA.

Participants will attend mini health workshops to learn about the health advantages of physical activity. They will also receive free fitness assessments and health screenings. The event will conclude with a special beginner Boot Camp fitness class.
