On Saturday, August 12 The Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church will hold a day of events just for young people. This community outreach program is called “A Celebration of Youth,” and the church plans to do just that.

The day will feature games, food, prizes, music, crafts and more all free. There will also be a clothes giveaway and free school supplies. Also booths will be set up about health and education.

The event is a way for the church to grow their youth ministry. The church’s goal is to get young people involved in church and pull them away from negative influences. Eastern Star Missionary Church is inviting everyone to join them for this event as a way of supporting the city’s youth who need it more than ever according to the church’s pastor.

“One of the most important things was we wanted to get the children involved in church so they can have some direction,” Ted Foster, Pastor of the Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church said, “The violence today is out of hand. If we get them in church they become more sensitive in how to treat each other.”

In the church’s 92-year history, Eastern Missionary Baptist Church has been heavily involved in community outreach. For 25 years the church had a feed the hungry program, where church members and other volunteers spent time to help those in need in our city. They have held summer bible study classes for kids as well.

“We try to have an outreach program every year for the community,” Pastor Foster said.

The church has consistently shown their commitment to young people in the past and plan to continue to make area children their priority. In the future the church is making plans to set up a dinner theatre night for young people possibly as soon as this Fall.

The church plans to hold the “Celebration of Youth” next year and for years to come in hopes that the event will grow.

“We look forward in the future to getting sponsors so the program can continue,” Pastor Foster said.

Eastern Star Missionary Church is located at 3117 St. Louis Avenue and will host the event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
