Of the St. Louis American

Bishop Calvin Scott, senior pastor of Believers Temple Word Fellowship Church will host a live two-hour special on Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) October 7. The show will be broadcast from the St. Joseph, MO location for the Christian broadcasting network.

Bishop Scott learned about the opportunity to host the show by accident. When a church administrator at Believers Temple heard an advertisement for pastors to host a special program to air on TBN. That administrator then sent in a brief bio of Bishop Scott and a history of Believers Temple Word Fellowship Church.

Soon after, TBN officials contacted the bishop and offered him the opportunity to host a live program where he would have the opportunity to deliver a spiritual message to the live studio audience as well as interview three guests on the show. While he is excited about the opportunity, Bishop Scott said that attention seeking is not in his nature.

“I don’t like a lot of attention,” he said. “I was humbled by the opportunity, but it’s not me. I give God the glory because I’m just the vessel.”

For nearly 13 years, Bishop Scott has worked as a pastor of Believers Temple. The St. Louis native said he hadn’t planned on being a minister at all, but God had a different plan for his life.

“I hadn’t even had an inkling I’d be called to preach,” he said. “I had told the Lord ‘don’t come in a dream or a vision because I want to know that it is really you’. I’ve been preaching now for 21 years.

“I was praying one day and it was like my spirit was in another place. It was then that God told me that I would be a preacher.”

He said that he is glad he followed the direction he felt he had received from God to become a minister.

“The best part about being in the ministry is fulfilling my purpose and God’s will,” he said. “Also, as a preacher, you’re helping people fulfil the purpose in their own lives and giving them a sense of hope.”

Bishop Scott said the church is often a place of refuge for the weary and that is also something he enjoys about his work.

“Church is a place of peace,” he said. “People come for comfort and for a way out of painful experiences. Nothing could be better.”

During the live TBN broadcast, Bishop Scott will interview three guests and said he is not afraid of hosting the show on the popular network in front of a live studio audience and a television audience of thousands.

“It’ll be a matter of just being who I am and just being natural,” he said.
