“Be a blessing and receive a blessing” is the motto of Reverend Joseph B. Garris, newly elected pastor of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Official installation services were held the weekend of October 1-3.

Rev. Garris’ appointment to Jerusalem M.B. Church comes after the retirement of Dr. Joseph Morgan, Pastor Emeritus, who ministered faithfully for 43 years.

Historically, Jerusalem stands as pillar in the community for 79 years via their layman and mission auxiliaries, annual parades, vacation bible school, and food “give- a-ways.”

Pastor Garris’ involvement with outreach programs on a local and regional level makes his appointment to Jerusalem a natural fit. His ministry is grounded in Christian studies that promote spiritual education, which build and support families, church, and self esteem.

Rev. Garris has been ministering for over 30 years. His mission has always been to seek, teach, and baptize all people into the church of Jesus Christ, in accordance with the gospel.

A graduate of Georgia Technical University in Constructional Engineering, Garris received his BD in Theology and Christian Studies degree from Shaw University.

He is actively involved with the Antioch District Missionary on auxiliaries as a Prison Ministry Leader, Coordinator of the Disaster Relief Program, and recently elected as a Vice Moderator.

Garris also teaches via KEXN Radio Ministry: Faith Harvest Ministry and has written several articles in Today in Church magazine.

A family man, he and his wife, Gwendolyn Garris established a non-profit organization, R.E.A.C.T. in Florida, designed to assist youth offenders during their rehabilitation process to build self esteem and responsibility. Together, Pastor and Mrs. Garris have accomplished an attitude to serve and live a life that pleases God and services people.
