Prosecuting attorney Robert “Bob” McCullough and his office are investigating alleged misconduct by a member of the grand jury considering the shooting death of Mike Brown by Ferguson Police officer Darren Wilson.
McCullough’s office received information Wednesday that a Twitter user posted a message insinuating a friend on the grand jury had discussed the case outside the courts.
The woman, who went by @thesusannichols on the social network tweeted, “I know someone sitting on the grand jury of this case There isn’t enough at this point to warrant an arrest.”
The tweet was deleted minutes later, but not before it was captured via screenshot and reported to the county prosecutor’s office. There are also numerous sites with Twitter archives that document the user’s Tweets and show she was a ardent and outspoken supporter of Darren Wilson.
Grand jury proceedings are confidential and if prosecutors discover that a juror has indeed discussed the case with a friend, a new grand jury may need to be selected. The proceedings would then start over from scratch.
Brown family attorney Ben Crump has reiterated calls for McCullough to be replaced with a special prosecutor after news of the alleged leak.
Information from the Washington Post and Huffington Post were used in creating this report.
