In the fourth press conference related to the Michael Brown tragedy, attorneys for the family of Michael Brown have addressed the nation on their behalf.
They wanted to plea for peace as emotions run high in the wake of statement made by Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson and to reinforce the notion that the decision to release video footage of Brown engaged in what Jackson called “strong arm robbery” as deflection and defamation.
“The release of that information was strategic. A calm had been reached, he is now inciting the community all over again,” –Attorneys said. “Now everybody is focused on a sideshow and it is unfair to this family.
The attorneys did imply that it was in fact the individual in the video was Brown.
“It appears to be him,” one of the attorneys conceded.
Brown’s cousin, Eric Davis encouraged the community to not lose focus of the issue at hand.
“Whatever took place that took place there had nothing to do with an individual getting down on his hands and knees with his hands in the air saying don’t shoot,” Davis said while raising his hands in the air. “This is the universal code for surrender and I can hear my cousins voice now saying ‘don’t shoot.’”
The other apparent intention behind the attorneys addressing the nation is to sooth the sentiment for the sake of non-violence.
“The family wants to make it clear that they do not condone any violence,” the attorney said. “They want peace.”
