The counseling agency Provident is expanding its efforts in North St. Louis County by opening a second location in conjunction with The Urban League of Greater St. Louis. The Urban League is opening the Ferguson Community Empowerment Center, where Provident will base its in-school counseling program.

“Provident is extremely grateful for QuikTrip’s generous donation of this property and the Urban League’s leadership in creating this center, which will allow our team to offer mental health support and assistance, including school-based therapists and educational workshops,” said Steve Sullivan, Provident’s CEO and executive director.

He said Provident is committed to Ferguson and the entire North County area.

“Since August 2014, we have redirected our resources where they are needed most and brought our counselors directly into specific schools,” Sullivan said. “Although much work remains to be done, we have a plan that could double the number of full-time counselors employed by Provident over the next three years, with the vast majority of these counselors working in North County schools. We are excited by the prospects.”

In addition, Provident will continue to offer free counseling to adults, age 20 and older, who have been affected by the 2014 events in Ferguson. Made possible by a grant from the United Way, the Ferguson Relief Counseling program applies to both City and County residents.
