Christina L. Dancy

AVP, Assistant Director, Anti-Money Laundering – Compliance Division

U.S. Bank Community Development Corporation

Founder and CEO, Your Purposeful Legacy

In short, what do you do?

As the Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer for U.S. Bank Community Development Corporation, I am responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining programs, procedures and risk assessments which align with financial regulatory authorities, which include but are not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-money laundering and Economic Sanctions laws, information security and code of ethics.

(Some of Christina’s community involvement includes: Board Member, Lutheran Family and Children Services; Advisory Board, Friends of St. Louis Public Schools; and serving as a volunteer for The Sophia Project).

What are some of the greatest challenges in your line of work?

The greatest challenge is keeping up with constant regulation changes along with the emotions of the public and employees. Money Laundering is a very sophisticated crime so the rules and regulations have to change quickly and be just as sophisticated. The rules change daily in this business and most people don’t like change.

As president of U.S. Bank’s African-American Business Resource Group, tell us a bit about the value and opportunities the group provides for its members.

As President of U.S. Bank’s African-American Business Resource Group, I lead a group of employees who volunteer to provide employees and more recently community members with opportunities to network, learn, develop leadership skills and contribute powerfully to our company and or the communities where we live, work and play.

Tell us about your initiative, Your Purposeful Legacy.

Your Purposeful Legacy inspires and empowers individuals to dismantle unproductive generational behaviors, uncover their life purpose and increase their financial stability. We provide 1:1 coaching, group workshops and financial education opportunities that will help change mindsets, create purposeful and engaged communities, develop strategies for clients to leverage financial resources and increase generational access to enjoyable and profitable life experiences.

Your service work centers around women, children and families. Tell us more about your community involvement and what brought this into focus for you?

My community involvement is centered around women, children and families because of my own childhood experiences. Around the age of 10 I was left with the responsibilities of caring for my terminally ill mother and raising my younger brother. I hope to be a support to our youth and families that may have similar experiences and who (due to their circumstances) may have lost hope for the future. Your Purposeful Legacy was created around what I feel is the need to recreate the family support structure and build legacies that will last for generations to come. I believe my purpose is to be the example… no matter what the circumstances are we can overcome any adversity.
