Over the course of six years, I’ve dedicated my time to an organization changing lives and communities every day. Please share a bit about the mission and work of The Sophia Project.
The Sophia Project is an organization engaging, educating and empowering young women to make sound decisions, embrace personal awareness, and build healthy relationships in the St. Louis, Missouri region. Through in school, Friday night K.I.S.S. (Keep It Safe & Sacred), and Conversation with Our Daughters sessions, these young women graduate from our programs with an awareness on how her relationship with self and others necessarily impacts her decisions and ability to be a successful and valuable member to her community. This fulfilling board of directors role allows me to ensure time, energy & resources are allocated effectively to service these wonderful young women and their mentors / program facilitators.
What can you tell people entering the workforce about the value of organizations for young professionals? Why get involved?
A young professional entering the workforce and joining professional organizations, you will see immediate benefit from leveraging networks, expanding in mentor opportunities, professional development / maturity grooming, & gaining industry based knowledge for employment advancements. But taking it a step further, many of these organizations provide opportunities for young professionals to further develop their community. As roadmaps for success and leadership begin to develop, there must be a core understanding that any company or organization is part of the fabric within a community. Professional organizations provide the linkage for young professionals to align energy, resources & skills in creating a better tomorrow & providing hope for generations to come.
