Mech Spraggins, Belleville West – Wresting
The talented sophomore grappler was the 119-pound state runner-up at last weekend’s IHSA Class 3A state championships in Champaign.
Spraggins advanced to the state finals with victories over Dominic Olivieri of Chicago Marist, Frankie Campo of Bolingbrook and Stephon Scales of Arlington Hershey.
Spraggins finished his sophomore year with a 36-5 record, which included the championship of the O’Fallon regional. In just two years of varsity competition, Spraggins has already been a two-time state finalist. He was a state runner-up at 103 pounds as a freshman.
