The talented junior swept all three of his matches to win the Class 1, District 1 championship at 126 pounds.

Wilkes defeated Michael Babusa of McCluer South-Berkeley in the quarterfinals 18-3, then defeated Matt Stiefermann by pinfall in the semifnals. In the championship match, Wilkes pinned Nicholas DeClue of St. James to run his record to 45-1.

Wilkes will be one of the favorites to win an individual state title at this weekend’s Missouri State Wrestling Championships in Columbia. He is currently ranked No. 1 in the state by Missouri Wrestling.com.
