District champs decided this weekend

District championship hardware will be handed out to four schools in Friday night’s Missouri Class 6 state playoffs. The four district champions will advance to the state semifinals, which will be held on Friday, Nov. 16. Meanwhile, district champions were crowned last night in the Class 2-5 playoffs, with all winners headed to the state quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Area schools Kirkwood, John Burroughs and Sullivan all remained undefeated in winning district championship games on Monday night. Kirkwood and John Burroughs remained in the hunt for a return trip to the Edward Jones Dome, the site of the Show-Me Bowl in three weeks. 

Kirkwood needed a fourth-quarter rally to defeat rival Webster Groves 21-14 to win the Class 5, District 2 title. John Burroughs got a career-high six touchdowns from standout senior Ezekiel Elliott in their 50-6 victory over Soldan in the Class 3, District 2 final. Elliott now has 41 touchdowns on the season.

The great turnaround season for Clayton High continues as the Greyhounds won the Class 4, District 5 title with a 27-20 victory over University City. After winning just three games last season, the Greyhounds are now 9-3 heading into Saturday’s quarterfinal game at Jefferson City Helias. Senior Tyler Walker continued his stellar senior season with four touchdowns.

District 1

Eureka at Lafayette, Friday, 7 p.m. – Undefeated Lafayette defeated Eureka 35-14 in the first meeting in Week 2.

District 2

DeSmet at CBC, Friday, 7 p.m. – Unbeaten Cadets defeated DeSmet 49-12 in first meeting on Oct. 5.

District 3

Columbia Hickman at Francis Howell, Friday, 7 p.m. – Both teams won low scoring district semifinal games to advance.
