We will begin this week’s notebook with the “Pick Game of the Week,” which does not come any bigger than Friday night’s Metro Catholic Conference showdown between CBC and host Chaminade. Both teams are currently 4-0 and dominating the competition in the process. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

These are two teams that you could very well see playing in the Edward Jones Dome during Thanksgiving weekend. CBC won the Class 6 state championship last season and is playing like a team that wants to get back to the Dome to defend its title. Chaminade is a talented team that should be a prime contender in Class 5 this season. CBC is averaging 56 points a game while its defense is surrendering only eight points. Chaminade is averaging 53 points a game while giving up only 11.

CBC has a multitude of offensive weapons led by seniors Tre Bryant and Lamar Anderson, who have six touchdowns each. Senior wide receiver Roddrick Bryant has hauled in four touchdown receptions while senior quarterback Blake Charlton has thrown 10 touchdown passes.

Chaminade is coming off an impressive 41-27 victory at MCC rival SLUH last Friday night. The Red Devils are young and very talented as well. Senior defensive back Roderick Campbell is headed to Northwestern. Running back Bryce Johnson has seven touchdowns, including three last week at SLUH. Quarterback Michael McGovern has eight touchdown passes, with four of them going to junior receiver Reginald Crawford.

Crusaders light up scoreboard

The Althoff Crusaders have been putting up some video game numbers in their last two victories against Helias and Breese Mater Dei. They followed up their 54-38 victory over Helias with a 68-46 victory over Mater Dei last Friday night in Belleville. Quarterback Jordan Augustine passed for 387 yards and three touchdowns against Helias. He was even better against Mater Dei with 532 yards and five touchdowns through the air. Junior receiver C.J. Coldon caught 10 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns against Mater Dei. Coldon is one of several players from the Illinois Class 3A state runners-up basketball team to play football. Seniors Tarkus Ferguson and Keenan Young and junior Jordan Goodwin are also basketball stalwarts who are getting it done on the football field.

Youth served at Trinity

Trinity High is currently 3-1 this season with a huge part of the production coming from freshmen and sophomores. Freshman quarterback Isaiah Williams has rushed for 346 yards and four touchdowns while passing for 640 yards and seven touchdowns. The leading rusher is sophomore Darries Rainey, who has 477 yards and six touchdowns. Trinity’s leading receiver is freshman Marcus Washington, who has 287 yards and three touchdowns. Washington also has a team-high three interceptions. Junior receiver Darion Bolden also has three touchdown receptions. Trinity’s three leading tacklers are all freshmen in Shammond Cooper, Bryce Childress and Alphonzo Andrews. Trinity will host St. Charles on Friday night.

Ritenour defense

One of the most impressive efforts from last weekend came from the Ritenour Huskies’ defense in their 20-14 victory over Pattonville. The Pirates entered the game with a 3-0 record and a high-powered offense that was averaging more than 50 points a game. Ritenour held the Pirates to only 148 yards of total offense. The speed and quickness of the Huskies was on full display as they had six quarterback sacks and forced three fumbles. Senior defensive end Dontrell Walker had two sacks and a forced fumble. Rashaad Hughes had two sacks while cornerback Robyion Hughes had his fourth interception of the season, which is tops in the metro area. Pattonville also suffered a blow when standout sophomore quarterback Kaleb Eleby left the game with a wrist injury. Eleby is one of the area’s most prolific passers.

Top performers

Summit’s Sam Pennington rushed for 255 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Falcons to a 34-14 victory over Parkway North in a battle of undefeated teams.

Cardinal Ritter’s Naeem Moore rushed for 270 yards on 34 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Lions past O’Fallon Christian 48-14. Moore has rushed for 891 yards and nine touchdowns this season.
