St. Louis Jeremiyah Love of Notre Dame entered the 2025 season as one of the top running backs in college football. The former CBC standout has lived up to the preseason hype and then some. Love’s strong season has him on track to break a Notre Dame record that has stood since 1979.

Through eight games, Love has rushed for 894 yards on 141 carries, which is good for six yards per carry. He is 543 yards away from breaking the record for most rushing yards in a single season by a Notre Dame running back. Former Fighting Irish star Vegas Ferguson rushed for 1,437 yards in 1979. Love will have to average 135 yards in the final four games of the season to break the record.

Love has also been a factor in the passing game with 23 receptions for 227 yards. He is averaging 140 yards a game from scrimmage along with his 14 touchdowns. Love’s name is also starting to appear in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy, which is big because the award annually goes to the top quarterbacks in college football.

Love has really busted loose with a pair of big performances in the past two weeks. On October 18, he rushed for a career-high 228 yards on 24 carries in Notre Dame’s 34-24 victory over USC. He followed up with 136 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns in a 25-10 victory over Boston College. ]

The highlight of the afternoon was an electrifying 94-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Love became the first Notre Dame running back in history to have at least two 90-yard touchdown runs in his career.

Notre Dame returns to action on Saturday night when they host Navy in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
