In last week’s American’s we honored the top area football players from the large schools. This week, it’s the small schools’ turn as we present the 2007 St. Louis “All-American” Small Schools Football Team. Here is a capusule look at all of the players selected.
Jeremiah Oteh (MICDS): The St. Louis American Small Schools Player of the Year, the 6’3” junior quarterback threw for 2,742 yards and 25 touchdowns to lead the Rams to the Class 3 state-championship game. Oteh has throw for more than 4,500 yards in his two years as a starter.
Chris Montgomery (Mascoutah): The senior tailback rushed for 1,932 yards and 28 touchdowns to lead the Indians to a 10-2 record at a berth in the IHSA Class 4A quarterfinals. He led Mascoutah to the state semifinals as a junior in 2006.
Demetrius Terry (Crystal City): The senior tailback rushed for 2,005 yards and 19 touchdowns to lead the Hornets to a district title and a berth in the Class 2 state playoffs.
Kendall Thomas (Career Academy): An excellent junior tailback who rushed for 1,369 yards and 12 touchdowns in leading the Phoenix to a district title and a berth in the Class 3 state playoffs.
Kevin King (Maplewood): A big part of the Blue Devils’ potent offense at receiver. Had 23 receptions for 599 yards and eight touchdowns for Class 2 state semifinalist.
Darryl Grady (Jennings): All-around talent who had 616 yards in receiving, 1,049 yards of total offense and 10 touchdowns during his senior season. A repeater from last year’s “All-American” team.
Myles Becquette (Festus): All Jefferson County Conference performer who had 24 receptions for 599 yards and eight touchdowns in leading Festus to a berth in the state playoffs.
Bryant Allen (Maplewood): Tremendous all-around talent who had 672 yards rushing, 609 yards receiving and scored 21 touchdowns for the Blue Devils, who advanced to the Class 2 state semifinals.
Lonnie Stuckey (Maplewood): A 5’10” 290-pound junior offenisve guard who anchored the offensive line for Maplewood’s powerful offensive attack. He is the nephew of former Soldan basketball star Kelby Stuckey.
Jearoyd Blackwell (McCluer South-Berkeley): A 6’2” 310-pound offensive tackle who earned All-Suburban East Conference honors as a junior.
Derrick Chestnut (Career Academy): A 6’3” 270-pound senior tackle who helped open holes for two 1,000-yard rushers in the Phoenix backfield. A first team All-Public High League selection.
Brandon Dunn (Career Academy): An All-PHL offensive tackle at 6’4” and 280 pounds who teammed with Chestnut to form an imposing pair of tackles.
Justin Barnette (Cardinal Ritter): Sophomore offensive lineman who earned all Archdiocesan Athletic Association honors. Has a bright future as a Lion.
Tyler Shaw (Lutheran North): Excellent all-around player who had six interceptions on defense and was a dangerous kick returner for the Crusaders. Also a state-champion hurdler in track and field.
Marquis Hill (Trinity): Sophomore standout was one of the top kick return performers among small schools. He also rushed for 1,398 yards and scored 21 touchdowns to lead the AAA.
Jerrell Coleman-Miller (MICDS): A two-time All ABC League defensive tackle for the Rams. Miller had 60 tackles, including 39 solos to anchor the Rams defensive line.
Raymond Corbin (Cardinal Ritter): The 6’2” 200-pound defensive end was an All-AAA selection after registering 11 quarterback sacks this season.
Patrick Jones (McCluer South-Berkeley): A massive 6’2” 315-pound junior tackle who was the Defensive Player of the Year in the Suburban East Conference. Jones had five sacks and nine tackles for losses this season.
Curtis Yancy (MICDS): The 6’3” 215-pound junior defensive lineman had 72 tackles (55 solos) and seven quarterback sacks for the Class 3 state runners-up.
Lavell Henderson (Career Academy): An All-Public High League performer who was among the conference leaders with 13 sacks for a Class 3 playoff team.
Cedric Thompson (Maplewood): Talented 5’10” 240-pound sophomore who was in the middle of the Blue Devils’ excellent defense.
Andrew Spencer (McCluer South-Berkeley): All Suburban East Conference performer at 6’1” and 215 pounds. Had 65 tackles in his senior season.
Quavonte Logan (McCluer South-Berkeley): Another All-Suburban East Conference linebacker who had 75 tackle this season. He is starting to draw a lot of interest from a lot of colleges.
Charles Dunbar (Lutheran North): One of the defensive leaders of the Crusaders’ district championship team. Had six interceptions from his defensive back position. Also led the ABC League with 17 touchdowns on offense.
Clay Reed (MICDS): A standout two-way performer for the Class 3 state runners-up. Reed rushed for 1,035 yards on offense. He was also an All-ABC League selection at defensive back. His last-second stop on a two-point conversion against New Madrid County was perhaps the biggest defensive play of the postseason.
Eric Willis (McCluer South-Berkeley): All-Suburban East defensive back who had eight interceptions to lead the league. The 6’1” 170-pound senior was a playmaker on defense as a shut-down cornerback.
Damon Sutton (Career Academy): An All-Public High League defensive back who had nine interceptions this season, including four in one game.
