A busy November boxing schedule kicks off tonight (Thursday, Nov. 3) and will carry through Saturday, beginning with an amateur show at the Heart of St. Charles Banquet Center and continuing with the Silver Gloves Tournament at the Cherokee Recreation Center.

Promoter/Trainer Jim Howell has enlisted top amateur talent from across St. Louis to face boxers from his club in North County. Some familiar names on tonight’s card include DeAndre Latimore and Lemarkis Cowan. Some of the names representing the North Side include Raul Valenzuela, Chris Anderson, and Chris Epley.

The Silver Gloves Tournament features local amateurs age 15 and under, and it’s always exciting to see the new crop of talent in St. Louis. The fights start at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and the rec center is located at 3200 South Jefferson.

The amateur action will continue with shows on Thursday, November 10, and Saturday, November 12 at the South Broadway Athletic Club, located at 2301 South 7th Street. The first bell on both evenings will sound at 7:30 pm.

Howell’s stable of professional fighters will return to the Heart of St. Charles on November 17 at 7:30. Fans will get a chance to see heavy-hitters Joe Stofle and Shawn Hammack, as well as Robbie Cannon.

The month will culminate at the Savvis Center on November 23 with the 18th annual “Guns and Hoses” show to benefit families of police and firefighters killed in the line of duty. The participants take weeks out of their busy schedules to train for a great cause, and the atmosphere in the arena is always electric. Ticket information for the event is available at the Savvis Center box office.

The Heart of St. Charles Banquet Center is located at Hwy 70 & Fifth St. For tickets, call Jim Howell at (636) 561-2380. Tickets for all pro and amateur shows can also be ordered online at www.boxingstlouis.com.
