A 1-0 win is rare in Colorado, but the Cardinals pulled it off Tuesday night at Coors Field with Cy Young and MVP duo of Chris Carpenter and Albert Pujols leading the way.
Rockies’ hurler Jason Jennings was the hard-luck loser after pitching the first complete-game loss for a Colorado pitcher in the franchise’s history.
Pujols hit his 33rd homer while Carpenter scattered seven hits over 7 1/3 innings.
“Guts. A lot of guts on both sides,” Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said.
Pujols smacked a Jennings pitch into the right-field stands in the sixth. Carpenter was often on the ropes, but was never knocked down or out. He was saved by a brilliant Scott Rolen play at third and repeatedly worked out of trouble.
