Cameron Murkey
The former Gateway Tech basketball standout enjoyed a great postseason run in helping the Hawks to the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament last weekend.
The 6’3’’ guard averaged 14 points and five rebounds a game during Quincy’s five-game postseason run, which doubled his scoring average during the regular season.
Murkey had 18 points and five rebounds in the Hawks’ 80-69 loss to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in the second round of the Great Lakes Valley Regional on Sunday. He had nine points, four assists and three rebounds against Findlay in Quincy’s 74-67 victory over Findlay in the first round of the regional.
Murkey had 18 points and six rebounds against St. Joseph’s in the championship game of the Great Lakes Valley Conference postseason tournament. In the semifinals against SIU-Edwardsville, Murkey had 13 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in Quincy’s 68-67 victory.
For the season, Murkey averaged eight points, 4.1 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field and 41 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
