The last time the St. Louis Blues faced the Chicago Blackhawks in a Game 7 in the playoffs, they were on the receiving end of a 7-2 bludgeoning.
Monday night the Blues came out on top dispatching the much disliked Blackhawks 3-2 – and advanced to the next round of the playoffs to face off against the Dallas Stars.
St. Louis fans nervously watched the Blues give up a 2-0 lead as the game lived up to the hype of any Game 7 no matter the sport. I shudder to think of the scorn and ridicule the Blues would have been on the receiving end of had they lost this series after leading 3-1.
The psyche of sports fans needed this victory just as bad as our beloved hockey team.
Does anyone have to be reminded that St. Louis is now a two sport town?
With the Rams going home, fans naturally held on tighter to its hockey team. The elimination of the Blackhawks was sweet, but there is more work to be done.
I think the Blues can run the table, but they can’t allow themselves to get too comfortable. They beat the defending Stanley Cup Champions – and this is one of the best Blues teams in recent memory.
I have yet to experience the buzz of a Stanley Cup Championship. But, I think that might change this year.
