Hazelwood West standout pitcher Devin Williams was selected in the second round by the Milwaukee Brewers in last week’s Major League Baseball Draft.

The 6’3” 170-pound righthander was taken with the No. 54 pick by the Brewers, who were delighted to see him last until the second round. He was projected as a potential first-round selection. Williams was rated No. 43 out of 500 players by Baseball American heading into the draft. He was one of the top high school pitching prospects in the nation.

The long, athletic Williams was a Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason All-American. He has already committed to the University of Missouri. He has a fastball that is usually clock in the low 90s. Major League scouts were a constant presence at all of Williams’ games throughout the season.

Williams enjoyed a dominant senior season in leading the Wildcats to the Class 5 district championship. He had a 6-2 record with an 1.15 earned run average. He recorded 101 strikeouts with only 28 walks. He also had three shutouts and five complete games.

In the Wildcats’ 1-0 victory over Hazelwood Central in the district championship game, Williams gave up only four hits and struck out 14 Hawks’ hitters.
