The 2006 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals will start baseball season tomorrow (Sunday, April 1). The team and the city plan to start it with a big bang.
Pep rallies will be taking place in the afternoon at Kiener Plaza and at Al Hrabrosky’s Ballpark Saloon. The gates to Busch Stadium open at 4 p.m. with the official opening ceremonies starting at 6 p.m.
Ceremonies will include Tim McCarver, Julian Javier, Mike Shannon, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, and manager Red Schoendienst from the 1967 Cardinals, plus Whitey Herzog, Dave LaPoint, Bob Forsch, Keith Hernandez, Joaquin Andujar, and Bruce Sutter of the 1982 team.
The opening pitches will be thrown out by Adam Wainwright, Bruce Sutter, and Bob Gibson, the last 3 Cardinal pitchers to throw the winning pitches of World Series.
REO Speedwagon will sing the National Anthem.
The first pitch of the game is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. The game will be carried by the ESPN cable network.
