Bonneville St. Louis Radio Group’s new Sports/Talk station WXOS 101 ESPN will be marking Black History Month during February with special programming honoring African-American athletes, their legacy and contributions to the history of sports.

The program series will be titled “101 ESPN’s Salute to Black History”. These special shows will be hosted by Alvin Reid, Editor of the St. Louis American and 101 ESPN’s Brian Stull, and will feature a review and discussion of the 10 most-influential African-Americans in Sports History.

Each show will focus on the achievements of the Top 10 athletes of color, featuring sound bytes of each person profiled. The series will also include a roundtable panel who will share their thoughts and opinions of these moments in African-American and sports history. This roundtable panel will consist of noted St. Louis athletes, media personalities, and 101 ESPN air talents – St. Louis Post-Dispatch Columnist and “Paris & Burwell” Co-Host Bryan Burwell; KSDK-TV Sports Director and “314 Sports” Host Rene Knott; and Former St. Louis Ram and Co-Host of “The Fast Lane” D’Marco Farr.

“101 ESPN’s Salute to Black History” will air from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm over a three-week span beginning Sunday, February 8, and continuing on the next consecutive Sundays, February 15 and 22, 2009.

Commenting on the upcoming series, Program Director Jason Barrett notes,”We kicked off 101 ESPN with ‘The St. Louis Sports Spectacular’, a retrospective of the top St. Louis sports moments, and we intend to continue creating unique sports programming for St. Louis listeners.”

Vice President and Bonneville St. Louis Market Manager John Kijowski adds, “Bonneville International Corporation is known for making a difference in the communities we serve.” Kijowski continues, “As the newest Sports/Talk radio station in St. Louis, we felt it was important to recognize the significant contributions African-American athletes have made in sports history.”
