One of the most confusing items in St. Louis sports has been the St. Louis Rams. The season just took another turn. While I have been wrong about this team and its record, I have found time to point out that this thing had a real good chance in blowing up because of how things started with training camp and the whole preseason approach. The Rams’ first eight games were an avalanche you never heard or saw coming. There was no reason to think things would change.

A twist took place on Sunday when the Rams won over the New Orleans Saints. As well as they played in the first three quarters; the fourth quarter reminded you of how they were 0-8. Now that the Rams have a victory, I am not

advocating that we inquire about playoff tickets.

The hardest thing about any season is winning your first game. The second hardest is making sure that it does not take to long before the next victory comes along.

The Rams are at that point. Winning at San Francisco it paramount. The 49er’s are now the St. Louis Rams of the

first half… awful. They are begging to be put out of their misery and the Rams have a chance to do it. If they

don’t, then their next step might be off a cliff.

Why I Love College Football

While the NFL may feature the finished product of the athlete, there is nothing like college football.

There is nothing like the fact that when you see coaches like Gary Pinkel, Ron Zook and, my friend, Sylvester Croom at Mississippi State have emotional wins – and see them near tears because they are losing seniors or beating teams that few thought they could – is what it is all about. Only college football can make grown me cry for all the right reasons. Seldom will you see that on Sunday. As for Pinkel, Zook and Croom, they represent what being a coach is all about. They had to clean up a mess, establish that character in the program is essential and they care about their kids who, in most cases, will never play in the NFL. But they will make positive contributions to

society. I have no idea how far these bowl eligible coaches will go, but I have truly come to enjoy what they have come to represent.

New Sound in Town

Congratulations and good luck to Martin Kilkoyne, Maurice Drummond and Chris Pelikan. They will entertain you on 1380 AM starting on December 3. While I think this show will be fun, I am happy to hear a voice of color on

the radio in an all-sports market that until now was just an all-out embarrassment when it came to diversity.

They will be on from noon to 2 p.m., daily while Frank Cusumano and Bob Ramsey are on

KFNS between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Here is my game plan. The first two hours with

Frank and “Rammer,” then switching the dial to Martin, Mo and Chris.

I am good with that and you will be too.
