I said after the Mitchell Report was released that Barry Bonds, the face of baseball’s steroid era, was going to have
company.
The question that arose was “will Roger Clemens be cut some
slack along the way when it came to the same accusations
that had been leveled against Bonds?”
They both are as wrong as two left shoes in some regards, and right in
others.
They share the trait of arrogance when it comes to the
method of how they handle the accusations. Each has provided little
evidence to sway negative public opinion.
Confrontations are sparked when media members ask logical questions.
On the flip-side of the coin, the method of how evidence has been
obtained has been questionable.
Seedy individuals who are trying to avoid jail time, people who have personal vendettas
and plain ole player haters sum up many of the
detractors.
With all that said, the question remains: How and why did they get into this mess?
Of all the people in the world, why pick on these two?
After hearing each of these individuals, and their feeble defense, it is easy to understand why. With that said I had
a few questions for Roger that his good friend Mike Wallace did not ask.
Why You Roger? The fact that you are better at
46 than you were at 40 raises the question of how. The game is full of hard workers.
When you talked to your accuser Brian Macnamee on
the phone, why did you not ask him why did he lie on you?
When McNamee ask you what could he do, why wasn’t
your response ‘be here at the press conference and
tell the truth?’ Also, explain why you lied especially when he
even offered to go to jail for you
How is it that you showed so much control and
restraint over the phone and then at the press conference
you all but threatened the same guy should he come to Texas?
While it is evident that many want to give Roger Clemens the benefit of the doubt, this is difficult for even his biggest supporters to swallow. There are too many holes
in the story. There are too many holes in his answers and, of course, too many
un answered questions. With all this said, the one question for you is with all the talk and
accusations about some of the premier players in the game.
How much will it impact you on being a fan? The answer has
already been given. Major League Baseball once again
enjoyed the largest attendance in its history.
