NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar auctioned off a collection of items from his career for charity on Sunday and pulled in nearly $3M.
Four of his six NBA championship rings were among the items auctioned – and drew a grand total of $2,947,872.25. According to Espn.com, Abdul-Jabbar said “much of the proceeds” will be allocated to his Skyhook Foundation – a charity that helps kids learn about science, technology, engineering and math.
The highest priced item was Abdul-Jabbar’s 1987 NBA Championship ring, which sold for $398,937.50. His ring from 1985 fetched $343,700. His 1980 and 1988 rings went for $245,500 each.
The other highest-priced item, a signed ball from his final regular-season NBA game in 1989, sold for $270,050.
Three of Abdul-Jabbar’s six MVP trophies — from 1972, 1974 and 1976 — which sold for more than $120,000 each.
